My interest in human behaviour is stimulated by the variety of my life journey. My exposure to various cultures and diversity has emphasised that human behaviour is not a “one-size-fits-all” template.
Both my Bachelor of Arts and Honours in Psychology were completed through the University of South Africa (UNISA). My Masters in Clinical Psychology was completed at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). My experience includes work at Headway Gauteng, Helen Joseph Hospital, Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital's Adult Psychology Unit and the Transplant Unit. Each experience giving me a growing perspective of human behaviour complexity. Working within multi-disciplinary teams at a psychiatric and general hospitals have given me a good foundation for understanding human behaviour and its complexities and management.
I currently have a private practice at Rivonia Village Centre where I also offer Saturday and evening appointments.
In addition, I conduct Transplant Readiness Assessments at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre and offer play therapy for students at Newton House School.
I work with children, adolescents, adults and couples.
Often children find it difficult to express themselves in words. Play therapy provides the opportunity for children to share their emotions, desires, thoughts, and fears in a non-threatening way. It encourages creativity and self-expression. Play therapy is offered to children from 2 years old to 12 years old. I most commonly use non-directive play therapy integrated with Theraplay.
Adolescence is a vital period in identity formation. It can often be a confusing, frustrating and/or exciting time. There may be periods where the teen may feel like no-one understands them or that they are alone. Individual therapy for adolescents provides a safe and holding environment to explore the demands of growing up, fitting in and finding oneself. Adolescent therapy is offered to those between the ages of 13 and 18 years old. I draw from CBT, DBT, and systemic theory when working with adolescents.
Individual therapy provides a collaborative and explorative environment for one’s current or past struggles. Therapy can be supportive in nature or become an in-depth examination of the self. The individual is always considered holistically with a focus on developing self-awareness and insight. Therapy can be short, medium or long-term, depending on the needs of the individual. Adult therapy is offered to individuals from age 18. An integrative approach is used, tailoring therapy to each client’s needs.
Couples therapy is offered to couples that are dating, engaged, married, life partners or co-parenting. Couples therapy provides a safe space in which difficulties and/or expectations can be explored. The focus is placed on clear communication between each individual with the aim to develop effective communication strategies. The couple are able to co-create and collaborate, in order to work toward a common goal.
